How A Pellet Insert Works wood burning fireplaces hudson valley ny
A pellet fireplace insert operates a little differently than a normal fireplace. These inserts are automated systems that are easy to use. Pellets are placed in the hopper, which is a storage bin in the appliance, and the auger motor feeds these pellets into the fire as needed. There is a thermostat on the appliance that determines how much heat is produced by the fire and pushed out into your home. It is the thermostat that dictates for the appliance when the motor needs to feed more pellets into the fire.
The auger motor does require electricity to operate. All of the heat is generated by the burning pellets not electricity. There is an exhaust fan that blows the combustion byproducts of the fire out of your home through a pipe running up your chimney. Another fan disperses the heat from the fire into your home. With the thermostat set, these inserts will turn on and off to maintain the desired temperature in the room being heated. All you are required to do is stock the hopper with pellets and set the thermostat to your desired temperature.
wood burning fireplaces hudson valley ny What Are Pellets Made From?
Pellets are made from recycled bark, wood pieces, chips and shavings. These recycled materials, saved from being placed in landfills, are compressed into moisture free pellets that look somewhat like rabbit food. The removal of moisture from the pellets allows them to burn cleaner and hotter than regular firewood. As a result, they burn 80% more efficiently than the wood in your traditional fireplace!
Pellets come in manageable 40 pound bags that stack and store conveniently. Unlike wood, you do not have to wait for pellets to be seasoned. They can be used as soon as purchased. You can use either premium or standard grade pellets. Standard grade pellets tend to be made with more bark which results in the production of more ash. Premium grade are higher quality, with less bark, and burn more cleanly. To learn more about pellets speak to one of our experienced specialists.
